Catamaran Veligandu

Data from the ship

Construction year1993
Type of boatCatamaran de
ManufacturerModelProut / Snowgoose 37 Elite
berthLefkas / Greece
After we already owned the Scirocco from the Prout shipyard, our catamaran was built for us according to our ideas by Prout in Canvey Island / England.
Right from the start, we wanted a pure owner's ship that was never intended to be chartered and where two double berths aft were enough for our family of four at the time. Although you can build another double bed in the salon, we never needed it. The starboard cabin in the bow, which is converted into a bunk as standard, is Veligandu's tried and tested office and workshop with plenty of storage space and a wide work bench.
Veligandu is an extremely reliable, strong ship that never let us down, even in the most adverse weather conditions, which was absolutely important for us as a family at the beginning of our time on the ship with smaller children.
The cat has been in the family for over 30 years now and was used extensively for sailing between Spain and Turkey in the first 15 years.
Since the children left, it has mainly served as a floating holiday home for us as a couple and has had its permanent berth in the Marina Lefkada, which we extremely appreciate, for the past 20 years.

layout

The cat has a large saloon and 2 aft double berths. On starboard there is no bunk in the front, but a room converted into an office/workshop with a cupboard and various drawers, as well as a continuous workbench. On starboard in the middle is the pantry with (new) gas stove, an induction hotplate, 3 sinks, microwave with oven. and grill function, refrigerator as well as several base cabinets and a fitted cup shelf. On the port side in the middle is the large navigation area with radar. At the front is the bathroom with a marine toilet, sink, shower, cupboard and washing machine. The two aft berths each have a cupboard and various shelves (apart from the beds). They are excellently ventilated thanks to large rear hatches and small side hatches that point into the cockpit .In the cockpit there are wide bench seats on each side, as well as a fold-out table in the middle. Below this is one of the access points to the engine compartment, the second access is on the work platform behind the cockpit. The cockpit can be used either with a bimini in the hot summer or with a cake stand (lockable all around) in the rainy winter. The work platform extends across the entire width of the ship and is ideal for all kinds of work, including cleaning fish caught on the go There is a 200l water tank in the hull.

Sails and rigging

Veligandu has a sail area of 64.9 sqm, consisting of main (18.8 sqm), furling genoa (38.6 sqm) and staysail (7.8 sqm). The main is a batten main with 3 reefing levels and a tarpaulin, the genoa is continuously reefable and has a sunprotect strip. The staysail (....sqm) can be attached separately with riders. The mast height above deck is 12.2m

Engine and technology

Veligandu has a Yanmar 35 HP diesel engine with controllable saildrive (Sonic Z-Drive) which makes maneuvering almost as good as with 2 machines. The cat also has a long-range diesel tank of 125l. The outboarder is an 8HP Mercury, the dinghy is enough for a good 4 people. A watermaker produces 8 liters of fresh water per hour, 10 solar cells and a wind generator provide electricity. There is also a Furuno radar, Firdell Blipper radar reflector, wind instrument, Autohelm 7000, batteries, portable dehumidifier, cooling device, fire extinguisher, voltage converter, charger. The workshop has an incredible amount of tools and spare parts for all eventualities, including a large emergency tiller.

Navigation and electronics

Veligandu has sailed all over the Mediterranean for years, but in recent years has served primarily as a floating holiday home. Therefore, the navigation has not been renewed and needs an update if you want to sail with this powerful cat. There is a working radar, radar reflector and wind instrument, as well as plumb bob.

Accessories, general

Veligandu is a pure owner ship, exclusively in the hands of the first owner since it was built in 1993.
It is a non-smoking ship and has never been chartered, and maintenance such as antifouling has always been carried out regularly by the owner.
The engine was also regularly serviced, minor work such as oil changes and filter replacement also by the owner, major maintenance work by authorized workshops.
